The list is long, but I have not practically used more than ten twelve of the below list by myself since I do not prescribe for others and I try to keep the good health.

A tonic, mildly astringent. Used for coughs, relaxed bowels and looseness of the bowels. Chest diseases, coughs.

Ague Weed Herb Gentianella quinquefolia Diaphoretic, Sudorific

Allspice Pimenta dioica Unripe-Fruit (Carminative, Aromatic)

Aloe vera Aloe vera Demulcent, Emollient
Sooths skin. Relieves burns, sunburns. Moisturizer for dry and oily skin. When ingested, relieves inner heat.

Aloes Aloe (genus) Cathartic, Laxative, Aperient, Purgative

Amaranthaceae, Linn, Polpala Aerva lanata Whole (Anthilic, Depurative, Diuretic, Lithontryptic)
Whole plant when dried and made to a tea, good against all urinary problems. Relieves inner heat. Prevents calculi and stones forming in urinary organs. Slowly increases the flow of urine. Purifies blood.

American Spikenard Root or Berries(Alterative)

Angelica Angelica Atropurpurea Root (Diaphoretic), Seed(Carminative, Aromatic)
A stimulant and aromatic. Used for kidneys and to induce perspiration. Heart, spleen, kidneys.

Angostura Angostura (genus) Bark (Stimulant)

Anise Pimpinella anisum Seed (Carminative, Aromatic)

Areca Areca (genus) Nut (Anthelmintic)

Arrow Root (Demulcent)

Artichoke Cynara scolymus
Reduces total serum cholesterol levels

Asafetida gum Balm Expectorant, Nervine

Ash Tree Fraxinus Excelsior Leaves (Discutient, Resolvent)
Used in gouty conditions, arthritis, etc. Dissolves fatty tumors, ringworm.
