Herb Simples
Herb Simples are the simplest and safest way to start in Herbology. Anyone can brew a Herb Simple. It is simple than a Herbal Tea. Simples are made with one single plant, (most probably a single part) and taken as a tea.

Common Name Latin (Scientific) Name
Blue Mallow Althaea (genus)
Pectoral. For coughs and colds generally. Used in case of cough, hoarseness, laryngitis, angina, dryness of the mouth in infusion or gargle. (Flowers were strewn in front of one"s house or worn as a garland for Mayday/Beltane celebrations in England.)

Bogbean Menyanthes Trifoliata
Creates appetite, excites the bile, good for gout.

Boneset Eupatorium Perfoliatum
Mild laxative, tonic; relieves fever and pains in the bones. For asthma, colds, dyspepsia, debility.

Borage (starflower) Echium amoenum
Useful in chest complaints.

Broom Spartium Scoparius
Used in some bladder complaints, especially in gall stones. As a poultice for broken bones. Purifies the whole system, cures tumors if persevered with over a period.

Buchu Agathosma betulina
A stimulant used in urinary affections and inflammation of the bladder.

Buckbean (Bogbean) Menyanthes trifoliata
A good tonic, used for liver troubles and skin diseases. Also for arthritis, etc.

Bugloss (Common Anchusa) Anchusa officinalis
Expectorant and tonic, used in cases of inflammation.

Burdock Arctium Lappa
Used for purifying the blood. All kidney troubles, antidote to mercury poisoning, useful in all skin complaints.

Burr Marigold Bidens laevis
For gouty conditions.

Cascara Sagrada Rhatnnus Purshiana
Constipation, but should not be used all the time. Safe for young or old.

Catmint (Catnip) Nepeta Cataria
One of the best herbs for skin diseases. Improves the complexion, opens the pores to remove toxins.

Chamomile Anthemis nobilis
Used in cases of nervous hysteria and all nervous complaints in women.

Cleavers (Clivers) Galium Aparine
A tonic and refrigerant. Cooling in fevers, lowers blood pressure. Used in gravel and gallstones. Externally: good for sluggish tumors. As an ointment, good for piles. Skin diseases. As a pulp, relieves poisonous bites.

Cloves Eugenia caryophyllata
The oil of cloves is a remedy for sluggish digestion. Two drops on a teaspoonful of sugar is the best dose. As a cure for toothache it is a specific remedy. The area should be painted with the oil.
